Temporary relocation of Highgate Library

In January 2024, the major refurbishment of the library will begin.
The priorities driving this refurbishment are the protection of the heritage of this beautiful Grade II listed building and the Council’s commitment to decarbonise its properties.

It is estimated that the refurbishment will take seven months. During this time the library will be temporarily housed in the sports hall in the Highgate Newtown Community Centre (HNCC) in Bertram Street.

This library will be open on the same days and at the same times as now, providing its current services and activities. As the space is smaller, there will be fewer books but this will be compensated for by an improved reservation service bringing books from other Camden libraries more quickly.

The events organised by the Friends of Highgate Library from January 2024 until the refurbishment is complete will take place in other venues. Check the events pages for details.
